Shaykh ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ Abū Ghudda was one of the grandest and most prolific scholars of the 20th century. Following his studies in his native Aleppo, Syria and then in Cairo, Egypt, Shaykh Abū Ghuddā quickly rose to prominence as a meticulous and thorough editor of Islamic texts, particularly ḥadīth texts. His edited and authored books filled Islamic libraries across the Muslim world, and students of knowledge flocked to acquire his latest publications. Shaykh Abū Ghudda was viewed by specialists and laypersons alike as an educator and a role model. After over twenty years since his passing, Shaykh Abū Ghudda continues to shape the minds of students of knowledge, and his works continue to be a source of knowledge and inspiration for knowledge seekers around the globe. The lecture will offer an overview of the life, contributions, character traits, and activism of Shaykh Abū Ghudda. The lecture will be delivered by his grandson Amir Abū Ghudda.
Ustadh Amir Abu GhuddaAmir Abu Ghudda holds a BA in Political Science and a Certificate in Economics from the University of Regina, complemented by a JD from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. His legal training includes completing articles at a prestigious Canadian national firm, as well as serving as a clerk at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal. Amir's professional experience also encompasses practicing as a litigator in Saskatchewan. Amir pursued extensive studies in the Islamic sciences in Türkiye under the guidance of renowned Syrian scholars in Ḥadīth and Fiqh, and he currently holds numerous Ijāzāt. Amir’s studies focus on Islamic legal history, Ḥadīth, and Fiqh. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies at Georgetown University.
