Dr. Abdalla Idris AliDr. Abdalla Idris Ali is a pioneering North American Muslim community leader, Imam, fundraiser and public speaker who has served the Muslim community through tremendous contributions in promoting education, Islamic knowledge and community cohesion. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Toronto. His expertise in the Islamic sciences which he studied with scholars in his native Sudan, are in Tafsīr, Sharīʿah, and counselling.
As a community leader, he founded the first full-time Islamic school in North America (ISNA Islamic Community School), where he served as principal for seventeen years and was integral in implementing Islamic and Arabic studies syllabuses for elementary and junior high students. Shaykh Abdalla has also served as the Director of Religious Affairs at Jami Mosque, dubbed "the mother of all the mosques in Toronto." He has also served on ISNA's Executive Council, Majlis Ash-Shura, Youth and Education Committee, and ISNA President for two terms. He is the past Islamic Media Foundation chair, a past board member of the North American Islamic Trust , a founding member and senior advisor of the Council of Islamic Schools in North America (CISNA), a previous member of the American Islamic Trust Publications (ATP) Editorial Board and ISNA Education Forum chair. Shaykh Abdalla was appointed director for Center for Islamic Education in North America (CIENA) in Kansas City, Missouri and served on the board of trustees of the International Board of Educational Research and Resources (IBERR), a group that formulates Islamic education syllabi for English-speaking Muslim schools around the world. Shaykh Abdalla also serves on the board of advisors of several Muslim organizations, including the Centre for Islamic Knowledge and as the Senior Community and Religious Advisor at ISNA Canada. |
