Foundations Program - Qur’an and Hadith Sciences - Fall 2026
The CIK Foundations Program aims to equip students with a grounded understanding of the essential ideas, sources, and values of the Islamic intellectual tradition. While rooted in classical knowledge, the program emphasizes practical relevance, nurturing students to become ethically aware, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible members of the Umma. It links learning to action, thereby encouraging service (khidma) and positive contribution to the Muslim community and wider society.
Module Information:
Aims: To introduce students to the key topics of the classical account of Qur’anic sciences and cultivate reverence, understanding, and usability of the Qur’an for personal transformation and collective upliftment and guidance. To introduce students to the key topics of the classical Scholarly account of Hadith, its science, and relevance today and reconnect students to the living legacy of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
Key Themes (Qur’an):
● Revelation (waḥy), preservation, compilation
● Types of exegesis (tafsīr) and reading traditions
● The Qur’anic worldview: justice, mercy, governance and ummatic union
● The Qur’an as practical guidance for all issues
● Dispelling doubts against the Qur’an’s authenticity and historicity
Key Themes (Hadith):
● Preservation and authentication of ḥadīth
● Major ḥadīth collections and classical scholarship
● Terminology of ḥadīth
● Prophetic guidance on societal reform, leadership, and community building
● Debunking modern misconceptions about ḥadīth
